Below is the 2nd installment of the top 10 Norcal (CCS, NCS, NS, OAK, SF and SJS) teams and individuals for boys and girls. It's still early in the season but teams are already starting to position themselves before we head to the best litmus test in Northern California cross country, the Stanford Invitational. The list will be updated throughout the season leading up to the California state meet.

Besides Petaluma, are any of these teams going to run seeded at Stanford? I would imagine that Jesuit and Davis would.
Going by last year's meet, the following teams from Northern California competed in the Stanford seeded race: Jesuit, Davis, Oak Ridge, Los Gatos, Willow Glen, Fairfield and Benicia.
I am sure there will be some changes this year. Some coaches who have teams that could run in the seeded races, might choose to stay in the divisional races or compete in other invitationals like the Ram Invitational (Westmoor HS).
Maria Carrillo girls have a couple of sophmore surprises. Hint; they played soccer last year (unfortunately the North Bay League plays soccer in the fall), and had they ran cross country last year the third place finish at the State Meet may have improved a couple of notches.
Pretty solid rankings on the girls side I think. On the boys side I think that Amador Valley and Skyline are massively underrated. Just wait for Skyline's 5th runner to click and they'll be a really tough team to beat. I think the prospect of Jesuit being second best in the north is absurd, especially after they were trounced by Davis Senior at the Yolo Invite. Also, I don't see Willow Glen holding a candle against anyone in the top 10 or even the honorable mentions. Even when Willow Glen had BOTH Mohammed Abdalla and Marcos Corona it was never enough. I don't mean to be too critical, I really appreciate the work you do. Plus the debate is the best part!

With the rankings, I try to rank the teams based on what they are doing now. There is no question that Skyline could move way up on the list if their 5th man can close that gap. Until then, they are 10th.
Jesuit has proved themselves already this season and they didn't field all their top 5 runners this past weekend.
I agree with you in regards to Willow Glen and their history however check out their times from the Chieftain. That's a very solid team with a stud up front. As of now, I think they deserve their rankings.
Keep checking back in. I don't expect you to agree with all my rankings and in the end, the teams prove or disprove their rankings on the trails.
Well, Petaluma's already looking good for this season.
Cant wait to see what the girls have in store for us this season. They have some pretty good runners this year.
I think Montgomery High should be added to the list if Maria Carrillo is there. Adding up the top times from the Viking Opener on Saturday, Montgomery beat them. Their Frosh/Soph team got second at Ed Sias and first at the Viking opener. Perhaps they're on the line for an honorable mention, but I feel (biased as a Montgomery Alumni) that they should be included.
Thank you for your vote for Montgomery. They are definitely in the mix with the teams mentioned in Honorable Mention and I will keep them in mind for the next rankings.

I am curious as to the 5th Skyline guy. Am I missing something...... Is he hurt, a mystery, not running well??? Many great teams have looked unbelievable but lacked the closer 5th man. I am curious to know who or when is he going to show.
I think that San Ramon Valley and Monte Vista are also deserving of possible honorable mentions as they are both running pretty well.
Do you really think Castro Valley is on the cusp? Their front two are good, but Fazzio isn't looking too hot, and their 4 - 5??? Who are they??
Monte Vista was missing their #1 runner at Ed Sias and their #2 runner at the Nike Invitational. They will be tough once they run everybody together. Division I is surprisingly deep this year in NCS and we could get seven teams battling for two state meet berths. San Ramon Valley is definitely one of those teams.
Castro Valley's freshman Ben Eversole ran very well at the Viking which now gives them 4 very good runners. Their 5th man Joel Becker is not that far off.
Skyline's 5th man is going to show hes true color during the Ram Invitational.I do think Skyline is underrated compared to last year. Skyline's 1-4th guys will most likely always score in the Top 10 or Top 15. there is no doubt about that.But once the 5th man kicks in, we have a chance to score big and win races. So keep your eyes out for Skyline.
Skyline, you guys remind me of our team (De La Salle) two years ago. We had a stellar group of four that ran beautifully at state (D-I) but the fifth guy ended up running a 16:55 and we got 6th. If #5 had run 5 seconds faster, they would have gotten 3rd and probably an at-large bid to NTN. Hopefully your 5th will show his true colors and come through and you guys will rep norcal well at state against those ss guys.
